rail studyThe Arizona Department of Transportation is once again seeking public comment on a passenger rail study that could pass through, and create a stop in, Coolidge.

Officially called the Passenger Rail Corridor Study, ADOT is trying to find the most plausible and efficient way to connected Phoenix to Tucson with a form of light rail track. Over a year ago, they were able to dwindle down the possible routes to get from point A to B to three alternatives, two of which would pass through Coolidge.

The one alternative that would not include Coolidge would place the tracks along Interstate 10. The second would utilize existing infrastructure from the Union-Pacific Railroad, which goes through downtown Coolidge. The third would go along the as-of-now hypothetical north-south freeway that would connect Mesa with the I-10 east of Eloy.
