Flat revenues, no pay raises for Casa Grande government

With rising costs and stagnant revenue, the city of Casa Grande’s budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year proposes fee increases for some services and another year of no pay raises for city employees.
“We’ve been able to narrow things down. We put together a budget that provides all the same services, but maybe not to the same level.”
Spending on employee pensions, health insurance and workers’ compensation is expected to increase $554,500 above the current year’s cost. The charge to employees for those services will increase about 11 percent.
A community policing grant that provides funding for police officers to be stationed in four schools ends this year, which will have a $277,600 impact.
At $137 million, the city’s proposed budget is at about the same level as it was in 2009. The current budget is $174 million. In 2010, it was $219 million.
When city officials started this year’s budget process, expenses exceeded revenues by $3.8 million.
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
