Florence historic building owner gets more time

Action to take the historic Francisco Cuen building away from a local businessman and return title to the town was tabled by the Town Council, in hopes the parties can agree on an action plan before the council’s next regular meeting on Nov. 6.

Florence Development Services Director Chris Salas told the council that conversations he he’s had to date with Stephen Smallidge have been “positive.”

The Cuen building is more than 130 years old, a badly-rundown little adobe at 11th and Main streets. Among other commercial uses over the decades, it was known for a time as the McFarland & Fullbright law office, although it’s doubtful Governor Ernest McFarland ever practiced law out of the building.
