Florence RV residents object to setback changes

Florence RV residents object to setback changes

by Mark Cowling | Florence Reminder & Blade Tribune

Residents of the town’s over-55 RV parks don’t want to be forced to meet new setback requirements on their lots, and attended the Town Council’s Nov. 20 meeting to show their objection.

Bruce Long, a board member of the Caliente Casa de Sol homeowners’ association, told the council over the last two months, members have been waiting anxiously for a decision by town staff on what their setbacks will be. He said the town established setbacks by ordinance in 1999. The town passed a new development code in 2006 which stated it’s not intended to affect existing development, Long said.

He asked if a variance granted by one elected body can be rescinded by another, and if town staff has the authority to disregard a variance and hold residents to a different standard.
