ICE deal cash begins flowing

Two weeks ago, the City of Eloy received its first check from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for its role as an intermediary between the federal agency and the nation’s largest private prison operator, Corrections Corporation of America.
Eloy will receive monthly checks throughout 2015, totaling $438,000, by acting as a conduit for a new detention center for undocumented immigrants in Dilley, Texas.
The federal government decided to build the center last year when ICE needed a place to house all the undocumented immigrants – mostly children and their parents – from Central America who poured into the United States.
The facility will detain the undocumented immigrants as they await court hearings and face pending possible deportation. It began housing immigrants in December.
