Johnson Utilities Bills Could Decrease

Johnson Utilities has submitted a plan to reduce their Central Arizona Groundwater Replenishment District (CAGRD) fee from $4.19 to $2.35 per thousand gallons of water delivered in the Phoenix Active Management Areas (AMA).  If approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission, San Tan Valley residents could see a significant reduction in their water bills.

The purpose of the CAGRD fee is to provide a mechanism for landowners and water providers to demonstrate an assured water supply under the new Assured Water Supply Rules (“AWS Rules”) which became effective in 1995.  An annual replenishment assessment is levied against all parcels of member land which the utility company must then pay based on the amount of excess groundwater it pumps. These fees are passed on to the customer.
