More issues crowd Florence’s May ballot

FlorenceThe new Pinal Regional Transportation Authority is preparing to ask county voters for a half-cent sales tax in a spring special election to get moving on some key road projects local leaders have had on their wish lists for the last decade.

It’s yet another issue competing for voters’ attention on the May 17 ballot, and “that scares me,” Mayor Tom Rankin said.

Council member John Anderson asked if Florence’s question will be on the back page again, referring to last summer’s ballot in which Florence lost Home Rule. Home Rule, which comes up for renewal every four years, allows the town to budget and spend its revenues without being held to a state-imposed spending limit.
