No tax hike in tentative Pinal budget

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved a tentative fiscal year budget at its meeting Wednesday, though further examination will eventually lead to a final budget — and even a possible resolution amendment to follow because of a Sheriff’s Office staffing study that is being done.

The tentative budget is capped at $406,072,603 and leaves the primary property tax rate at about $3.87 per $100 net assessed value. That’s down from the 2016-17 fiscal year tentative budget of $410,193,288, which was $11 million less than that of the fiscal year prior.

The overall budget decreased by $3,637,924 because of lower spending in financed capital projects, like court expansion and roadway improvements, according to a presentation by Assistant County Manager Leo Lew.
