Old Main Street lights in Florence may go to Heritage Park

florenceMayor Tom Rankin would like to see the town’s old-style “acorn” streetlamps, which have been taken down on North Main Street, re-installed along the wide walkway to the concessions area and ball fields at Heritage Park, he told the Historic District Advisory Commission.

This project could also include building a bridge across the ditch on the east side of the park for easier pedestrian access from North Main, Rankin said. He guessed the total project might cost $100,000, and noted the Town Council has yet to consider it or approve it.

But he said the old streetlamps probably can’t be stored indefinitely without damage, so a decision on their reuse needs to happen soon. The old streetlamps are being replaced as part of the “streetscape” improvements on North Main.
