Oracle residents hope they don’t have to move homes off forest land

Residents are claiming the U.S. Forest Service didn’t tell them they’d someday be forced to move their homes off federal land.

Dale Ortman, who bought a home in Pinal County on the edges of Coronado National Forest in 2004, said he only recently found out the federal agency planned to phase out a permitting program that allowed him and his wife to live on forest land.

He attempted to sell the home last year but the Forest Service denied the sale. Afterward, Ortman said he discovered his home had a different classification than he thought.
