Proposed Casa Grande Historic Preservation Ordinance adjusted following outcry

An ordinance updating Casa Grande’s historic preservation rules will likely be back before the City Council soon, following a study session to discuss the issue.

On Monday, the council heard an update on the policy, which was controversial earlier this year when an amended ordinance was first discussed. The revisions proposed this week take into consideration feedback from residents of the Evergreen Historic District, most notably allowing for an “opt-out” clause.

In April, residents of the district spoke out at a public hearing on the issue to voice their dissatisfaction with the way they thought city staff handled issues dealing with the homes in the district. On Monday, Paul Tice, the city’s planning and development director, told the council that staff had heard those complaints and had taken steps to solve any issues in the newest revision.
