Despite objections from residents, the planning commission gave the go-ahead for new homes to be built in Villago.

Planning and Zoning commissioners heard concerns from residents of Villago on Thursday night after a presentation from a potential new home builder in Casa Grande. K. Hovnanian Homes plans to offer homes for sale on 142 existing lots in Villago. The problem, as neighbors see it, is that Hovnanian’s homes will be much smaller than the existing neighboring homes, causing the neighborhood to have a different feel and potentially drag down home prices.

City Planner Joe Horn said the homes offered will range from around 1,300 to 2,700 square feet. Many of the homes in Villago are much larger than that, neighbors said, raising concerns that “starter homes” will be built next to their luxury properties. Michael Cordova, an architect for Hovnanian, told commissioners that while the home prices hadn’t been finalized, they would range from the mid-$100,000 to the high-$200,000 range.
