What’s Next for San Tan Valley?

san tan valleyAfter years of fighting to change Arizona state law so that San Tan Valley residents could finally have the right to vote on whether or not they want to become a city, Governor Doug Ducey signed HB2088 on Feb 21, 2017.

After the bill was signed, many San Tan Valley residents have wondered what’s next, with many asking why the vote hadn’t already taken place.  “So many of us are excited and ready to take the next steps”, said San Tan Valley resident Candice Steelman, “but we have to wait until the bill becomes law and that won’t be until mid-August”.

With the signing of the bill in February, many residents had assumed that the vote would take place during the November election this year.  In order to make it on the November 2017 ballot however all documents would have had to be submitted by July 2017, before the bill became law.  This would have required San Tan Valley residents to get permission from all neighboring municipalities, something they have not been able to get for more than twelve years.
