Florence Community LibraryThe town of Florence will follow its original plan of building a new library and recreation facility on a 40-acre parcel across from Town Hall.

Officials had considered a building at Sixth and Main streets, which was destroyed by fire in February, as a potential home for the new library, but backed away from that plan this week.

“It’s just not feasible,” said Jess Knudson, Florence assistant town manager.

The town originally had its eye on the undeveloped 40-acre parcel across from Town Hall to construct a multi-use center with a new library, outdoor community aquatic center, recreation program building and space for other general government services.
