‘Home rule’ ballot question essential for city budget

EloyIn the August 26 primary election, Eloy voters will cast either a yes or no vote on Proposition 402, or ‘Home Rule.’

A yes vote would allow the City to determine its own expenditures based on its budget. Without voter approval of Home Rule, the City would be limited to state-imposed expenditure limitations based on 1980’s-era spending levels, with slight adjustments for population and inflation growth.

It is also important to realize that Home Rule does not affect taxes in any way. Budget estimates are based upon existing income sources, and don’t include any new taxes.
