Water for Living Project Continues to Help Those in Need
Businesses, organizations and citizens come together to provide water this July
The citizens of Apache Junction and the Apache Junction Walmart have stepped up to ensure the Water for Living Project helps as many people as possible this July. Initiated by the city of Apache Junction to help people in need; the Water for Living Project is a community effort ensuring access to water this summer. The Apache Junction Walmart agreed to be a drop-off location for the project and donated a pallet of water. Harold McGrier, Store Manager and Casey Baldwin, Assistant Store Manager, were happy to help, but felt more could be done. They started contacting other Walmart locations and successfully secured donations from 18 other stores in markets 371, 372 and 373. Stores ranging from Scottsdale to Casa Grande and Maricopa to Globe each donated a pallet of water to support the Water for Living Project in Apache Junction.
Approximately 50,000 bottles of water have been provided to the Apache Junction Food Bank, Salvation Army and Genesis Project to be distributed to individuals and families in need. “Walmart’s efforts of 40,000 bottles and the community adding another projected 10,000 is something to be celebrated. This is just one example of the community coming together for an important cause” shared Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Larry Johnson. “The local Walmart has been so kind to donate all this bottled water for the needy here in Apache Junction and I think that shows a great community service” added City of Apache Junction Mayor John Insalaco.
Water donations are still needed and can be made at the Apache Junction Walmart, Apache Junction Food Bank, Genesis Project, Salvation Army, Multi-Generational Center, Apache Junction Public Library and the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce. Monetary donations can be made through the Friends of Apache Junction with “Donation-Water for Living” on the memo line, attention Taryn Pepper, 300 E. Superstition Blvd., Apache Junction, AZ 85119.
