Pinal County Town Hall Focuses On:  Economics of a Healthy Community

“Economics of a Healthy Community!” is the theme for the 27th Annual Pinal County Town Hall, Thursday, October 2nd and Friday, October 3rd.  Approximately 140 delegates, including 25 youth, are expectedto attend the sessions at the Casa Grande Holiday Inn.

The overall goal of the information/discussion sessions, according to Town Hall Director, Maxine Brown, is “to equip citizens with the knowledge and means to improve the quality of life in their communities.  This year Pinal County Town Hall is partnering with the Arizona Town Hall in discussing areas that can be improved to help the overall economy of Arizona.”

This year’s speakers include:  Tom Schryler, Director of the Pinal County Health Department; along with speakers from Arizona’s Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Department of Public Health; Author Erin Callinan; Rona Curphy, Chief Executive Officer for Banner Casa Grande Medical Center; and Ted Cooke, Central Arizona Project (CAP) Assistant General Manager, Finance.

On Thursday afternoon from 4:15 PM to 6:15 PM Town Hall will have a Resource Fair.  Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss with local agencies, organizations, and providers what is available in Pinal County relating to health services.

Pinal County Town Hall’s Wayne G. Gerken Youth Scholarship will be awarded during the event.  Town Hall offers students the opportunity to attend the two-day event and participate in an essay contest for the scholarship.  Town Hall Advisory Committee Vice Chair, Donna McBride in discussing the youth component of the program, stated:  “Town Hall has provided a venue for young people to come together with local leaders.  Helping them learn about important issues facing our county and Arizona will create the next generation of leaders.”

Pinal County Town Hall Advisory Committee Chair, Sandie Smith, explained:  “I have attended all 26 Town Halls and for the last 26 years, Pinal County Town Hall has been instrumental in bringing together diversified interests to focus on timely, relevant issues vital to Pinal County and its citizens.  This focus is then transformed into action items with reports due back at the next Town Hall.  The networking and friendships formed at these Town Halls are invaluable for forming alliances that will help ensure Pinal County is a place where we can live, work, and play.”
