Big Band Blast – CAC Jazz Ensemble Concert Nov. 21
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The Central Arizona College Jazz Ensemble is proud to present “Big Band Blast” on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Don P. Pence Center on the Signal Peak Campus (8470 N. Overfield Road, Coolidge, AZ.) This free concert is part of the Community Events series.
The 16 piece Jazz Ensemble will highlight their show with both classic big band music and contemporary jazz literature. Feature tunes will include: Route 66, Miles Davis’ Four, When Sunny Gets Blue, Bill Chase’ Vehicle, A Greasy Brown Paper Sack, Carlos Santana’s Evil Ways, Stompin’ at the Savoy, Southern Extremity, and John Coltrane’s Blue Train.
The evening will feature many talented musicians including: Larry Marik (tenor sax – Palm Creek resident), Mason White (trombone – Apache Junction), Salvadore Duenas (trumpet – Casa Grande), Mario Escalante (tenor Sax – Casa Grande), Audrey Peterson (alto sax – Casa Grande), Walter Jacobson (trumpet – Mission Royale resident), Manlio Peneida (Bari Sax – Eloy), and Wendy Landers (Piano – Arizona City).
The CAC Jazz Ensemble rehearses twice a week. Their repertoire consists of standard and progressive jazz literature in the swing, Latin, and rock idioms. An emphasis is placed on learning and developing improvisational skills. The CAC Jazz Ensemble performs one concert on campus per semester, as well as numerous gigs throughout Pinal County and Arizona. The ensemble is directed by Professor Rick Moore.
