City of Apache Junction & Pinal County Domestic Violence Coalition Help Paint Pinal Purple

The city of Apache Junction and the Pinal County Domestic Violence Coalition are partnering with organizations throughout the county to Paint Pinal Purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month. Activities will be held across Pinal County during the month of October to help raise awareness community awareness. Apache Junction will be participating in the following:
10/7 Voices for Justice Press Conference hosted by the Maricopa Association of Governments
9:00am – 10:00am at ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, 1100 S. McAllister Ave. Room 115, Tempe
Apache Junction’s Vice Mayor Robin Barker will provide comments
10/7 Proclamation: City of Apache Junction
7:00pm at City Hall, 300 E. Superstition Blvd., Apache Junction
10/9 An Afternoon of Acceptance hosted by Central Arizona College
12:00pm – 6:15pm at CAC’s Superstition Mountain Campus, 805 S. Idaho Rd. Building F, Apache Junction
An interactive learning activity “In Their Shoes” and the Clothesline Project will be available. At 4:30pm Apache Junction’s Police Chief Thomas E. Kelly will speak followed by a presentation of CAAFA, Domestic Violence in Film & Literature: The Effects of Misrepresentation.
10/9 Candlelight Vigil hosted by the Apache Junction Police Department
6:45pm at Veterans Memorial Park, 1001 N. Idaho Rd., Apache Junction
Remember those lost and honor survivors of domestic abuse.
10/15 Wear Purple Wednesday
Show your support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and join the statewide effort in wearing purple.
10/20 In Their Shoes
7:00pm at City Hall, 300 E. Superstition Blvd., Apache Junction
City of Apache Junction city councilmembers will complete the interactive training.
10/25 Disco Fever hosted by CAAFA
6:00pm at Dolce Vita, 3301 S. Goldfield Rd., Apache Junction
A fundraising dance to support the programs and services offered at CAAFA.
According to the Center for Disease Control 2012 Fact Sheet, “nearly 3 in 10 women and 1 in 10 men in the US have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by a partner and report a related impact on their functioning”. In 2013, Arizona experienced 125 domestic violence related deaths. Paint Pinal Purple is an opportunity for the community to come together.
