Leaders seek study funds to stop destructive Lower Santa Cruz River flooding

The Lower Santa Cruz River has been the source of destructive flooding in Pinal County in the past, but efforts are being made to make sure people will be safe in the future.
Local leaders, including U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Flagstaff) and U.S. Rep Paul Gosar (R-Prescott), secured federal funding for the Lower Santa Cruz Watershed project in March.
The project, one of just nine in the entire nation to receive funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation through a program called New Starts, finished Phase 1 in September – a $100,000 reconnaissance study completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
