Town of Florence studying how to attract farmer’s market

While the Town of Florence continues to study how to bring a genuine farmer’s market to downtown and draw a crowd to it, it will allow the Saturday morning market to continue to operate as it has been.
Town staff will contact other cities and towns with farmer’s markets and to learn what licensing or permits they require vendors to have. The town will also ask produce vendors what they need to see in Florence before they will sell here.
At a Town Council work session on the subject Monday, downtown property owner and businessman Larry Pfeiffer defended the Saturday market. After beginning some 12 years ago as a Chamber of Commerce project, it has been self-governing in recent years, and the town now is adding “a layer of confusion” to it, Pfeiffer said.
