2% sliced from Pinal County budget; might not be the last

Facing sharply declining revenues, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors moved Wednesday to help stem the bloodletting of the county’s financial reserves with a 2 percent across-the-board budget cut.
The move applies to all departments for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, save for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detention staff, which already has seen its share of cuts in the wake of a federal contract cancellation.
The change amounts to nearly $2.5 million coming out of the budget and takes raises for county employees, which had been tentatively planned for spring, off the table.
