Central Arizona College Empty Bowls event coming Feb. 24
MEDIA ALERT: CAC is proud to host its 13th Annual Empty Bowls on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015. To date, the event has donated over $30,000! Empty Bowls, is a worldwide grass roots initiative, begun in 1990 to help fight hunger. Ceramists at CAC create food safe, stoneware bowls and donate their material and time. We have professional potters as well as students who donate their work. These handmade works of art would cost upwards of $35 sold retail.
CAC Culinary Arts students serve a simple meal of soup and bread. The meal is served very simply to demonstrate solidarity with folks who are served in a soup kitchen. Guests choose a bowl to use and to keep, as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. Guests give a minimum donation of $10 CASH and the CAC Art Club donates the money collected to local food banks, including St. Vincent de Paul, Casa Grande Food Bank and The Warehouse (serving Coolidge and Florence.)
The sale begins at 11 am on the south patio of the Sizer Building (N). Once purchased, the bowl is washed and filled with soup. The participants may eat in the lovely Culinary Arts dining room or on the east garden patio. Take out containers of soup will be available if you want to eat elsewhere. Wipe out your bowls afterwards to take them home.
We thank the following event partners ahead of time: Laguna Clay/Marjon Ceramics, Inc., CAC Art Club, CAC Art Department, HRM Culinary Arts Students and Staff and CAC Community Events. Special thanks go out to Laguna Clay who has donated 500 pounds of new clay!
