Florence Council prepares for special election on budget

Florence Town Council members received a preview of the presentation town staff plans to give to community groups over the next several weeks, hoping to persuade them to vote yes in the May 19 special election.
This election seeks to avoid a 39 percent cut in the town budget and major cuts to town services, town staff said. Local voters should begin receiving their postage-paid ballots in the mail after April 23.
It isn’t the town’s funding that’s being cut, but its ability to spend its revenues. Local voters rejected Home Rule last year, which means the town is subject to a state-imposed spending limit for at least the next two fiscal years.
