Pinal CountyResidents of the Picacho area near Eloy are sick and tired of low-quality water in their homes, but there is hope on the horizon.

In a unanimous vote at Wednesday’s meeting, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved the formation of the Picacho Domestic Water Improvement District, which will pave the way to potable water for people who live in the area. In order to become an official district, a requisite number of signatures must be collected.

The district’s area includes 580 acres, bounded by Halsey Street on the west, Phillips Road on the north, Blossom Avenue on the east and Shay Road on the south. The area is about 6 miles southeast of downtown Eloy.

The district proposes to acquire an existing domestic water well, storage tank and transmission lines to deliver potable water to users living within the district’s boundaries. The district is entirely within the boundaries of the existing Picacho Water Improvement Corporation, which has 83 customers.
