Maricopa hopes residents will use transit system more

COMETMARICOPA — Despite low usage, the City of Maricopa Express Transit, or COMET, system is returning to the streets for at least two more years.

City officials hope that if citizens don’t know about the public transportation service yet, they soon will with the addition of bus stop signs at the 12 regular stops.

The City Council recently approved a resolution authorizing city staff to complete all necessary paperwork to apply for the Rural Public Transportation Program (Section 5311) from the Arizona Department of Transportation to continue to operate COMET for the next two years.
