CAC police chief quits to take job with Coolidge
SIGNAL PEAK — Central Arizona College will once again be looking for a new police chief following the resignation of James Matheney.
The governing board approved Matheney’s resignation last week when it approved the consent agenda.
Matheney left the college on May 4 to take a position with the Coolidge Police Department. He replaced Luis Martinez in August 2014 after a lengthy search that lasted over a year.
“It’s kind of a bummer. I enjoyed working with him and I was disappointed to see him go,” said Brandi Clark, executive director of human resources for the college.
In the meantime, Sgt. Wallace Kenny will handle the day-to-day operations of the department solely on the college’s Signal Peak Campus, along with overseeing the private security guards at the college’s other campuses.
