Patrick Melvin has resigned as police chief of the Salt River Police Department, just two weeks after he was placed on administrative leave April 15.

Melvin led the Maricopa Police Department as its chief from October 2006 to November 2011, when he took over as chief at Salt River, a tribal reservation just outside Scottsdale.

Melvin was one of the final four candidates for chief at the Seattle Police Department in April 2014. Currently, he is one of 10 finalists for chief at Phoenix PD.

Prior to his time at Maricopa, Melvin spent 21 years at Phoenix PD, rising to the rank of commander.
