McCleney flies off into sunset
Toltec Elementary School District says goodbye to ‘Captain Zero’
ELOY — Last week’s Toltec School District regular governing board meeting marked the end of an era in the district with the seven-year tenure of Superintendent Dr. Bryan McCleney coming to a close.
“I’m not really a suit guy, I’m not really a paperwork guy,” McCleney said during his address at the meeting. “But if you want someone who will go into the trenches with the teachers, I’m a pretty good person for that.”
He recalled his first week on the job, a veritable trial by fire. The first day there the fire marshal was looking for him to get the fire lanes up to code and by the end of the week the “100-year flood” had taken out the Toltec Elementary School cafeteria along with the IT department and records. The school year started without any class lists.
