Pinal could be among those helped by school tax ruling
PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Superior Court ruling Tuesday, which sided with Pima County in a lawsuit over an effort by the state of Arizona to shift more of an education tax burden onto local taxpayers, may also benefit the city of Maricopa and Pinal County.
Pima County filed its lawsuit last summer. It claims a state budget change during last year’s legislative session unconstitutionally forces millions of dollars in education spending that had formerly been handled by the state onto Pima County taxpayers.
The same was happening around the state, and locally in the city of Maricopa and Pinal County.
