Rule change allows Valdez to remain as Eloy magistrate

ELOY — The City Council unanimously has approved creating an ordinance that modifies a residence requirement for the city magistrate.

Before Monday night’s council meeting, the person appointed city magistrate would have to establish residence in Eloy within one year and maintain that residence until the end of the appointment.

The ordinance allows the magistrate to maintain residence within 25 miles of the city limits rather than be limited to just the town proper. This allows Valdez to keep his current residence in Casa Grande.
