MARICOPA — The City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with the state for design and construction of roadway improvements for Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway from Porter Road to White and Parker Road.

This is the first step in finally giving citizens a glimpse into what the future for the main thoroughfare between the two Pinal County cities will look like and when work will eventually begin.

The agreement designates the Arizona Department of Transportation to serve as the city’s authorized agent and allows the use of federal money for the project.

This means the city of Maricopa only has to spend a little more than $300,000 in tax money for a $3 million road construction project, Bill Fay, public works director, said.
