I-10I-10 widening must wait

CASA GRANDE — Despite an oft-cited desire to improve Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Casa Grande, a recently awarded federal grant does not involve widening the section of the freeway that runs between the two cities.

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently bestowed a $54 million grant to widen two sections of Interstate 10, located south of Casa Grande, and install dust-detecting technology throughout the freeway in Pinal County.

The sections that will expand from two lanes to three include 4 miles of freeway in the Picacho area and 3 miles between Earley Road and Interstate 8.
