The Pinal County Farm Bureau donated 200 pounds of meat Thursday to the F.O.R. Food Bank, helping it to feed an additional 60-70 families.

Along with the recent help the struggling food bank has received from the community, for right now, it will continue to stay open and provide much needed nourishment for those in need.

“Ever since the word got out where we are, the community just showed up and really helped,” said Claudia Goldner, community service coordinator for the Food Bank. “I love this community.”

She said F.O.R. is not necessarily getting a lot of food from just one place, but it’s getting a lot of little things, which adds up to large amounts of food.

But on Thursday, it did receive one big donation. That 200 pounds of meat included lamb, pork and beef.

Food bank officials will add that meat to its perishable food boxes, which they give out once a week. Dairy, produce, bread, eggs and more are all included in the perishable food boxes.
