term-limitsBennett joins Babeu in pledging to term limits

CASA GRANDE — Former Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett is pledging to only spend six years in Congress if he cannot balance the federal budget within that time frame.

Bennett is one of six candidates seeking the Republican nomination this year for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. One of his primary goals, if elected, is to reduce government spending and reign in the $18 trillion federal debt.

Bennett said he believes he can balance the budget within two terms of serving in the U.S. House of Representatives with a plan that would annually reduce spending by 1 percent over a four-year term.

If he can’t get the plan to work after three terms in the House, Bennett vows to not run for reelection. The pledge would also apply to the U.S. Senate, where terms last for six years.

Representing voters in Congress should not be a long-term career, Bennett said, and politicians should be held accountable on the promises they make.
