Council ‘shocked’ by lack of service
Fire chief: 682 instances of ‘Level Zero’ status in last 2 years
CASA GRANDE — City Council members were disturbed to discover how often there is no ambulance available to respond to an incident.
Casa Grande Fire Chief Scott Miller delivered a presentation Monday to the council, updating members on the status of the city establishing its own ambulance service.
Miller called off a set of numbers he’s been tracking since 2014 of services provided by Southwest Ambulance, part of Rural/Metro, a private company based in Mesa that transports patients throughout Pinal County.
There reportedly have been at least 358 days over the last two years when the city had either one or zero ambulances available for service, according to Miller. Within those 358 days, there were 682 instances where the city was at “Level Zero” status — meaning no ambulances were readily available.
