Duarte plans to cut through bureaucracy
ELOY — A decorated U.S. Army veteran is making his second run for Eloy City Council, and this time Carlos Duarte is confident things will be different because more seats are up for grabs.
Duarte was born and raised in Eloy, the same place his parents, grandparents and children grew up. He graduated from Santa Cruz Valley Union High School before joining the military.
“I was gone for 14 years being in the military, but I always came home, all the time,” Duarte said.
Duarte is running because he believes that his hometown roots will allow him to be able to put Eloy first.
“There’s so many problems with Eloy,” Duarte said. “But they’re (the council) losing sight of what the great city of Eloy is to me, especially having grown up here.”
He said there is too much feet-dragging on the council and not enough prioritizing of things that need to get done, like major fixes to infrastructure in order to spur growth. If elected he says he will try and speed up progress “as much as humanly possible.
