Pinal County to lower primary property tax rate by 13 cents
Thanks in large part to a successful lawsuit against the state by Pima County, Pinal County property owners will see a significant drop in their property taxes this year.
The state has agreed not to appeal a court ruling that said passing a 1 percent tax cap on to counties and local jurisdictions was illegal. Therefore, the county was able to lower its final primary property tax rate from about $4 to $3.87 per $100 of net assessed valuation.
Assistant County Manager Leo Lew said it’s essentially a 13-cent reduction in the rate due mostly to not needing to set aside nearly $2.8 million to pay for that 1 percent cap issue the state had attempted to pass on.
