 SAN TAN VALLEY — Most of the San Tan Valley residents attending a public meeting last week are opposed to the community becoming a city.

But those who would like to see a vote on the matter are undeterred.

More than 200 people came to American Leadership Academy Ironwood Campus in response to an invitation from state Sen. David Farnsworth, R-Mesa, to discuss issues surrounding the question of whether the community should form a city.

One retired man, among the many people to speak over the course of the 90-minute forum on July 27, asked who was opposed to incorporation, and perhaps two-thirds of the crowd raised their hands.

Still, Tisha Castillo told the crowd a bill to break down the barriers to a vote will be back for a third try in the next legislative session.
