Pulte says Anthem flood plain maps are mistaken

AnthemFederal maps show some homes in Anthem at Merrill Ranch in a “flood plain” with an above-average risk of flood, but a Pulte Homes spokesperson said that’s an error the company is working diligently to correct.

A Sun City man told the Town Council recently he was startled to discover his house was in a flood plain as he prepared to sell it. The homeowner, Terry Thomas, told the council there could be 100 houses in the flood plain, “if this is accurate information.” Pulte Homes spokesperson Valerie Dolenga couldn’t say if 100 is correct, or give an estimate of how many homes are affected.

She said in May of last year, Pulte received approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to revise the flood plain limits for the area in question through a “Letter of Map Revision” or LOMR. The revision was supposed to take place that August. However, it appears an error occurred in the documented mapping of the flood plain lines, affecting several home sites in Sun City Merrill Ranch, Dolenga said.
