New Circle K gets town incentives despite unknown effects on street

Despite concerns about whether the town could end up with three convenience stores on three consecutive blocks, or just create more vacancies on Main Street, the Florence Planning and Zoning Commission approved the Infill Incentive Plan and design review applications for a new, bigger and modern Circle K at Main and Brady streets.
The commission also approved design review for a new medical office building and pharmacy on State Route 287, between GreenTree Inn and Family Dollar, at its Oct. 20 meeting.
The new Circle K, at 5,881 square feet, will be larger than either of the two old ones, and will have eight gas pumps. It will be perpendicular to Main Street to meet a minimum 300 feet from First Baptist Church as required by the store’s liquor license. The store will be on the lot of the former Foxworth-Galbraith Truss Company, which was more recently a feed store.
