Out with the old: Property tax money being used to pay for major sanitary district project

Residents have likely noticed a change in their property tax bill from the sanitary district, a rate increase due in large part to a massive capital improvement project.
According to the Pinal County Treasurer’s Office, the secondary property tax rate as collected by the Arizona City Sanitary District increased from 1.3032 in 2015 to 2.7306 in 2016. The rate was approved at the district’s board meeting on June 29, at which time the fees were voted to remain the same.
At the meeting on Nov. 9, the governing board approved a $752,200 contract with the Phoenix-based MGC Contractors to replace the core of the district’s wastewater treatment process. That contract does not include the approximately $100,000 for engineering design and construction oversight.
