Some city council members became testy with each other at Monday night’s meeting over minor disputes about the $20,000 matching funds Eloy pledged to complete the second phase of the Eloy Veterans Heritage Park project.

It started with a failed motion initialized by Councilmember J.W. Tidwell to go into executive session to discuss some of the finer points of the deal, which was shot down by councilmembers Andrew Rodriguez, Joey Nagy and Mayor Joel Belloc, but sustained by vice mayor Micah Powell.

“I have a lot of comments. That’s why I wanted to go into executive session on this, Mr. Mayor, but I’ll make ’em here in public,” Tidwell said when asked if there were any questions on the item.
