Pinal legislators have prime seats at the table

Recently announced Republican leadership appointments may give Pinal County representatives in the 53rd Arizona Legislature the best seat at the table they have had in years.

Senate President-elect Steve Yarbrough has named the Senate Republican committee chairmen and leaders, and Speaker-elect J.D. Mesnard has determined House leaders.

Rep. T.J. Shope of Coolidge was named speaker pro tempore of the House. Shope said this might be the first time in more than 20 years that a Pinal legislator has held such a high post, referencing now-Pinal County Supervisor Pete Rios’ run as president of the Arizona Senate for the 40th Legislature beginning in 1991.
