The Apache Junction City Council at a meeting Nov. 15 voted 7-0 on allowing an 8-foot-tall wrought-iron fence on the east side of the new Shoppers Supply at 1477 W. Apache Trail to surround an outdoor storage and sales yard. Chain-link and masonry walls were previously considered.

Voting yes on the planned development major amendment request by the James P. Schmidt Revocable Trust, represented by Lance Baker, Architect with Synectic Design Inc., were Mayor John Insalaco, Vice Mayor Robin Barker and council members Christa Rizzi, Chip Wilson, Dave Waldron, Gail Evans and Jeff Serdy.

Shopper’s Supply, previously at 3003 W. Apache Trail, has purchased the former Food City building and property, as well the vacant lot directly east of it, Rudy Esquivias, senior planner for the city of Apache Junction, said to the council. Also, Shoppers Supply was recently approved for a conditional use permit to operate a temporary outdoor storage and sales yard, but it expires on April 26, 2017.
