New Florence Mayor, council seated Monday

There were plenty of thank-yous and fond farewells – along with a few still-raw feelings – as Tom Rankin presided over his last Town Council meeting as mayor Monday night.

Rankin had kind words for many people with whom he’s worked over the years, congratulated those who were newly-elected or reelected, and added, “I’m not through with Florence.” 

Tara Walter, who defeated Rankin in the mayor’s race last month, took the oath of office and moved into the mayor’s seat. Also taking the oath were Bill Hawkins, beginning his third term; Karen Wall, who was elected to her first full term; and Kristen Larsen, the council’s newcomer.
