Casa Grande planning to annex more land in Lucid area

The City Council on Monday night initiated annexation of more land tied to the development of an electric car assembly plant.

In a 6-0 vote — with the absence of Lisa Fitzgibbons — the council gave city staff authority to begin the process of annexing 160 acres on the northeast corner of Thornton Road and Selma Highway, near where Lucid Motors plans to build a manufacturing plant.

The California-based startup announced last year it was going to develop 500 acres in Casa Grande for its first manufacturing plant. A development agreement between Lucid and the county and city has yet to be authorized.
