RICO reform bill stirs discussion among Pinal officials, resident

If pre-Country Thunder traffic jams hadn’t made a Gold Canyon activist late to Wednesday’s Pinal County Board of Supervisors meeting, he would have delivered a speech during the call to the public attempting to drum up support for a bill designed to limit civil forfeitures.
In light of the bill’s progression to Gov. Doug Ducey’s hands, Roberto Reveles intended to address the board, asking for its support for House Bill 2477, introduced by Rep. Eddie Farnsworth, R-Gilbert. The bill would change how law enforcement agencies spend and report seized criminal assets, known as RICO funds.
“Once again Pinal County has emerged in the headlines as the state Legislature approved legislation designed to reform the much-abused civil asset forfeiture law,” Reveles intended to say in front of the board Wednesday, but instead, his prewritten statement was obtained in an email to PinalCentral.
