Changes coming to Casa Grande block grant funding

The city of Casa Grande held the first of two public meetings Monday to discuss changes to the city’s Community Development Block Grant program.

Changes to the program include opening up the potential applicant pool to allow for nonprofit organizations whose mission is to assist low- to moderate-income residents.

In the first three years of the program, the city concentrated its efforts on public works projects that benefited whole sections of the city, such as sidewalk repairs in the downtown area. Since Casa Grande now has a population over 50,000, the city will receive its allocated money directly from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, allowing a larger section of nonprofit organizations to serve their targeted populations.
