Pickleball tournament bringing 1,400 to CG

More than 1,400 players of the nation’s fastest growing sport will descend on Casa Grande this week for a national pickleball competition.
The USA Pickleball Association will hold its national championship tournament at Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort Nov. 4-12. According to Drew Wathey, a spokesman for the tournament, the registration for the tournament was filled within 30 minutes of opening.
“It just shows you how popular pickleball is,” Wathey told PinalCentral, adding that 1,400 players signed up in 30 minutes. In comparison, he said, 800 people registered for the tournament last year.
